lexton solid surfaces are stain-resistant, finished component products ideal for kitchen tops, countertops and other surfaces subject to hazard of moisture. even the most pristine areas won't succumb to coffee, ink, or other stains. no special cleaning products are needed to keep lexton looking beautiful day in and day out. while lexton is extremely tough and durable, like any other fine material it can be damaged if abused or mistreated. reviewing these care and cleaning instructions can assist you in understanding how easy it is to care for your new lexton surface and how you can prevent more severe damage that may require special repairs. with a little knowledge, you can enjoy the elegance and beauty of lexton for years to come.
normal cleaning
lexton is non-porous so it can be wiped clean with a damp cloth or sponge and mild detergents or general purpose cleaners such as mr. clean. if you have matte finish, abrasive cleaners like ajax or comet may also be used, periodically it may also be helpful to go over the entire surface in a circular motion with an abrasive cleaner or wet scotch brite pad to maintain a uniform appearance.

do not place hot pans directly from the burner or oven on the lexton surface. even though lexton can withstand sustained temperatures up to 225 <f, prolonged or extreme heat could cause yellowing. a trivet should always be used under hearted appliances, such as crock pots, electric frying pans, etc. although minor cuts and scratches in lexton can be repaired, deep cuts will require the services of a professional. strong acids such as those found in drain cleaners, toilet bowl and oven cleansers should be used cautiously around lexton. if these items are accidentally spilled, wipe them up at once. some of these items, when left on the surface, may cause whitening, which can be difficult
while most everyday spills can be removed with the cleaning techniques listed, some troublesome spills and stains such as food dye, tea and fruit drinks may require more aggressive cleaning. these items can be removed with full strength bleach followed by a general cleanser. then. note: bleach should only come in contact with the surface for two to five minutes. on a matte finish, if you prefer, you can scrub with an abrasive cleaner. even nail polish can be removed from lexton with nail polish remover or abrasive cleanser.
while lexton will not burn, should a lighted cigarette accidentally come in contact with the surface it could leave a nicotine stain or scorch mark. either of these can be removed by cleaning with an abrasive cleanser or buffing in a circular motion with a scotch brite pad.
1) in case of a dull finish
sand with 180-(120 micron) or 220-grit(60 micron) fine sandpaper until the cut and scratch is removed; restore finish with an abrasive cleanser and a green scotch-brite pad to the same finish as the adjacent surface.
2) in case of semi-gloss finish
sand with 400-grit(30 micron) sandpaper; restore finish with a nonabrasive cleanser and a white scotch-brite pad.
3) in case of high-gloss finish
sand with 400-grit(30 micron) sandpaper; sand with 600-grit(20 micron) sandpaper; buff with polishing compound and a low speed(1500-2000 rpm) polisher equipped with a wool pad; finish with a wax.

preventing damage

in most cases, lexton can be repaired with ease if accidentally damaged. however, be sure to follow the guidelines here to prevent any permanent damage to lexton.

1) heat damage
even though lexton has an excellent heat resistant property compared with other ordinary countertops, placing hot pans as well as some heat-generating appliances such as frying pans or crockpots can damage a lexton surface. always use a hot pad or a trivet with rubber feet to protect lexton. avoid using lexton for a long time over 80 <c(170<f)

2) other damage
- avoid exposing lexton to strong chemicals such as paint removers, oven cleaners, etc. surfaces exposed to these chemicals should be promptly flushed with water. contact over a long period of time will cause spots and require extensive sanding to remove.
- do not cut directly on a lexton surface.
- use a cutting board.
- run cold water when pouring boiling water into sinks.
- remove nail polish with a non-acetone-based nail polish remover and flush with water.
